The Toronto Songwriters’ Festival’s mission is:

  1. To provide a platform for Toronto's top acoustic songwriters/performers (to ultimately try to connect them with music consumers, and the movers and shakers who can give them a hand up).
  2. To create a continuously growing, recognized annual event where people come together to make a difference.
  3. To raise money to improve education conditions for children in developing countries (currently Laos & India) through Jai Dee (Good Heart) Children's Fund.

History
We launched this festival on September 24, 2006 at Hugh’s Room to great acclaim. We had a full house and we raised over $5,000 for charity. Jojo Chintoh from CityNews officiated and a clip of our festival aired at 11 pm the night of the event (www.citynews.ca/news/news_3804.aspx) and ran the next day on CP24.. We also had an article published in the Bloor West newspaper. To see last year’s performers (a number of them award-winners) click on Artists, 2006. They included: Blue Venus (Andrea de Boer and Devrim Eldelekli), Layah Jane, Noah Zacharin, Peter J. Slack, Royal Wood, Suzie Vinnick, The Undesirables (Sean Cotton and Corin Raymond) and 1 award-winning comedian: Alex Nussbaum. We also had The Russell Leon Band.

To see exactly what we did with the money we raised last year (i.e. photos of the work we did on the schools in Laos and India), please visit www.jaidee.smugmug.com. We will also be showing a short flick at this year's event showing how we made a difference with your help!
